Dads, How to Correct Behavior Using Fruits of the Spirit

Dads, How to Correct Behavior Using Fruits of the Spirit

Go ahead.

There is a new show streaming on Netflix. It's called Works of the Flesh. Open it up and start watching the show. Ok, are you ready? Here it comes.

  • Fornication
  • Lewdness
  • Jealousies
  • Outbursts of wrath
  • Dissensions

Now don't lie to me. While watching this new show called Works of the Flesh, you were also scrolling Twitter.

A quick scan of the latest political news confirms the following:

  • Selfish ambition
  • Hatred
  • Murders
  • Uncleanness
  • Contentions (Arguing)

Ooooh.... but the self-help slash spiritual gurus are busy on Instagram. You better give them a quick look.

  • Sorcery
  • Heresies
  • Idolatry

Let's get a little closer to home. Where do you work? If we take a peek under the hood. What will we see?

  • Adultery
  • Drunkenness
  • Envy

Sadly, this Netflix show called Works of the Flesh is all too real, and it's all around us.

Sorcery. For example, consulting the dead through a medium seems benign and silly. Do you want to know what the Bible says about sorcery? (Silly palm readers, those quaint mediums with their cards)

Do not allow a sorceress to live.

Exodus 22:18

Old. Testament. Slaps. Hard.

Let's be honest. We've gone a little soft on ourselves, haven't we? Remember - dark spiritual forces are waging war and warring with God's kingdom.

We see a society hitting up that vending machine and grabbing sin on the go. This is people living a life separated from God. They are not believers and still live in bondage. There are no fruits of the Spirit here. The Bible describes the works of the flesh for us in detail.

Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Galatians 5:19-21

With sin on full display in our society. We must do our duty and place our children on the path to becoming disciples of Christ as young as possible.

So how can we, as fathers, start discussing the fruits of the Spirit with our kids and shape their behavior modeled after the Bible?

Use Wholesome children's Books as Tools to Help Introduce Your Children to the Fruits of the Spirit

Let's recap for a moment what God instructs us to do as men who are believers.

  1. Obey God
  2. Read the Bible often (Every day)
  3. Pray unceasingly
  4. Put on the armor of God
  5. Instruct and teach our children according to the Bible ⬅️ ⬅️ ⬅️
  6. Fight in the war against dark spiritual forces and
  7. Spread the Gospel wherever we can so that unbelievers can hear the good news and repent of their sins.
  8. Glorify him in everything that we do
💡
Dads... you and I need to instruct our children as God commanded.

But you know what? I'm feeling energized even though this is a time-consuming task.

I want my kids to repent of their sins to live a life where they obey God to live a life that Glorifies God. And one day, I want to be reunited with them in the celestial city (heaven).

But if you have little children, you sometimes need help. You need tools to help you assist in talking about the fruits of the Spirit. What better communication tools than wholesome books from Big Sky Life Books.

Big Sky Life Books sells wholesome children's books. Consider their books like tools. To help you as Dad, introduce essential concepts from the Bible. One of the best collections you can buy to help you talk about Fruits of the Spirit is called Discipling Little Boys.

Now let's talk about Fruits of the Spirit. Let's go over them again.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such, there is no law.

Galatians 5:22-23

Let's break it down using a list format.

  • Love
  • Joy
  • Peace
  • Longsuffering
  • Kindness
  • Goodness
  • Faithfulness
  • Gentleness
  • Self-control

I'll tell you what when you start reading books from the Discipling Little Boys collection. Here are the benefits you'll unlock as you read the books with your kids.

You will be able to:

- Introduce Fruits of the Spirit in a way that is easily understood
- Talk about how they should behave daily using examples from the books
- Address and correct behavior with simple examples
- Learn that our behavior as Dads needs to be adjusted as well

One Fruit of the Spirit I must work on a lot is self-control. I realized this after I felt like a complete hypocrite for telling my boy to have self-control and use words when upset. I realized that I was not modeling biblical behavior and did not have self-control in certain situations.

But that is what is great about this book collection from Big Sky Life Books. You will have great examples of applying Fruits of the Spirit and talk about them with your kids. But it will also force you to evaluate yourself and be able to answer this question.

Do your children see a Dad crushing the Fruits of the Spirit daily? Does Dad have self-control in his language, his reactions to everyday situations, other people's actions so on? Does Dad display kindness to Mom and strangers?

Another great benefit I saw was correcting my children's behavior. I used to say. Stop doing it because it's wrong. Now say sorry to your brother or sister and move on.

Now I still stop the behavior of my kids. But I explain and teach more. I tell them God wants us to live according to his will, which includes the Fruit of the Spirit evident in their life. So, were you being kind? Did you have self-control? Did you take someone's joy? Were you gentle? You can correct and model biblical behavior multiple times a day. We have noticed a change in our children with this approach. I hope you will also see this change in your children as they become disciples of God.

Look, nothing will ever replace the Bible, and nor should it. The wholesome children's book collections I mentioned are tools in your armory. As a spiritual warfare operator, you have your armor of God. You have your sword. You have your Bible. But every armory has other tools to help you get the job done.

I encourage all Fathers and grandfathers to discuss the Fruits of the Spirit with their children and grandchildren. Take a minute. Think through your behavior. How are you modeling God's word in your life? If you say, you are a believer. Do you possess and display the fruits of the Spirit?
